As group leader, AI Progetti was awarded the tender for the renovation and re-functioning as a civic centre of the former school E. Salgari in S. Martino Buon Albergo, currently under historical-artistic restriction. The building, made of masonry and mixed concrete and solid floor slabs, has an original layout dating back to 1925 that was extended in the 1950s with the construction of the two side wings. Between 2008 and 2014, the public administration started renovation work, which was later abandoned. The project now undertaken aims to turn the existing structure into a multifunctional civic centre, a cultural place for knowledge and information, which can be defined as the ‘Piazza del Sapere’, re-adopting the concept coined by Antonella Agnoli. The structure will house a library, a conference room for 100 people, rooms for activities for the elderly, rooms for motor activity and coworking. From the point of view of the structures, the interventions are aimed at consolidating the existing building to make it suitable for the load variations resulting from the change of use, always respecting the historical-artistic value of the building.
