The social housing redevelopment project involved a complex of 14 buildings with a total of 105 flats, the construction of which had begun in 2006 but had never been completed. After construction was interrupted, the buildings in an advanced state of construction were abandoned and remained so until they were purchased by a private fund. The planned intervention was therefore aimed at removing an area of almost 20,000 square metres from unjust degradation, through a design process capable of integrating with the needs and expectations of its future inhabitants.
The reconversion of the flats into workshop houses, housing, supplementary living services and co-working spaces was planned.
In order to provide the necessary spaces for social living, particular attention was paid to rethinking and restoring the relationships between public and private outdoor spaces. The project was also designed to obtain class A energy certification, achieved through the renovation of the mechanical and electrical systems and the installation of new thermal power plants equipped with high-efficiency thermal boilers.
